Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice

The School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Houston-Victoria is accepting applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice.  The University of Houston-Victoria is a Hispanic-serving institution, located in the Coastal Bend region of southeast Texas. The main campus is in Victoria, TX, approximately 2 hours from Houston, Austin, Corpus Christi and San Antonio. It also offers a satellite campus in the greater Houston area. The University of Houston-Victoria enrolls approximately 5,000 students. This position is located in Victoria, TX. The successful applicant is expected to play a large role in campus and student life in Victoria. The Criminal Justice program has an undergraduate program that serves both traditional college students on campus and distance education students. Courses in the undergraduate program are offered face-to-face in Victoria and online. The Criminal Justice program also has a Master’s degree that recently began in Fall 2020. The graduate degree is offered online at this time. This position will start no later than Fall 2021. An earlier start date of Spring 2021 will be considered based on the successful applicant’s current employment needs. Applicants should note when they expect to start, should they be hired for the position. Required qualifications:  A doctoral degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Criminal Justice Administration or a closely related Criminal Justice field by starting date; demonstrated excellence in teaching; evidence of scholarly and professional activities; teaching undergraduate face-to-face courses in Victoria, as well as online graduate courses.Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to generalists capable of teaching a wide variety of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well those who have interest in expanding on-campus research, service and extracurricular opportunities for students. Candidates who have taught face to face undergraduate courses and have demonstrated involvement with students on campus are preferred. Position summary:  Candidates will be required to teach a combination of courses (3/3) in the Criminal Justice undergraduate and graduate program. The candidate will advise students and serve as a Master’s thesis advisor for graduate students. Candidates are expected to participate in course and program development; pursue scholarly and professional activities; perform other duties as assigned by the dean and chair of the Division of Social & Behavioral Sciences; and perform all other related activities as required.Applicants must submit an application online and included: cover letter,current curriculum vitae;list of three current recommendations from people who are in a position to know the applicant’s expertise, with at least one addressing teaching effectiveness and at least one to address research and scholarly activities;evidence of effective teaching (including student evaluations, if available);a complete description of scholarly activities, Copies of all college transcripts. Institutional Research Analyst

Compiles and analyzes data for university reports. Compiles and analyzes data; and prepares federal, state, and UH System reports. Assists with data collection and analysis in the development and publishing of the university's Fact Book and other annual data files. Responds to internal and external data requests. Downloads and verifies data from PeopleSoft for the Institutional Research database. Compiles and analyzes data sets to develop a data dictionary to standardize definitions of data elements, to ensure consistency of university reports. Maintains Institutional Research work log; develops documentation for major projects. Manages university surveys and distribution of survey results. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in management information systems, statistics, or related field. Minimum Experience: (2) years related experience

 

Lecturer in Political Science

The School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Houston-Victoria is accepting applications for a Lecturer position in Political Science. The University of Houston-Victoria is a Hispanic-serving institution, located in the Coastal Bend region of southeast Texas. The main campus is in Victoria, TX, approximately 2 hours from Houston, Austin, Corpus Christi and San Antonio. It also offers a satellite campus in the greater Houston area. The University of Houston-Victoria enrolls approximately 5,000 students. This position is located in Victoria, TX. The successful applicant is expected to play a large role in supporting undergraduate teaching, thus contributing to campus and student life in Victoria. The Political Science faculty serve a variety of needs for the institution. The undergraduate program serves students seeking the residential experience through face-to-face classes in Victoria and non-traditional students seeking a degree through on-line programs. Faculty also teach core Political Science courses at the lower division for all undergraduate students. Partnerships with local high schools have also expanded and dual credit students take lower division core Political Science courses. Position summary: Candidates will be required to teach a combination of courses in the Political Science undergraduate program. The candidate will mentor undergraduate students. Candidates are expected to maintain excellence in teaching; participate in course and program development; perform other duties as assigned by the dean and chair of the Division of Social & Behavioral Sciences; and perform all other related activities as required. This position will start in Fall 2021. Required qualifications: A Master’s degree or higher in Political Science or a closely related Political Science field by starting date; demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to generalists, especially in American Politics, capable of teaching a wide variety of courses at the lower and upper division, as well those who have interest in program development through the expansion of on-campus service, specifically extracurricular and experiential learning opportunities for students. Candidates who have taught face-to-face undergraduate courses and have demonstrated involvement with students on campus are preferred, but some experience teaching on-line would be helpful. Applicants must submit an application online and include: cover letter, current curriculum vitae; list of three current recommendations from people who are in a position to know the applicant’s expertise, with at least two addressing teaching effectiveness. evidence of effective teaching (including student evaluations, if available); Copies of all college transcripts. Senior Secretary

Provides bookkeeping and secretarial support to a department or center. Answers and directs calls and visitors; provides customer service to students. Prepares correspondence and reports. Provides secretarial support to faculty and departmental staff. Assists with scheduling and coordinating projects and events. Prepares purchase requisitions and vouchers, travel requests and vouchers, and other accounting forms for department. Processes deposits for payments. Reconciles university credit card purchases, and prepares associated expense reports. Assists with departmental time reporting and payroll processing. Maintains and updates departmental files and logs; updates departmental databases. Inventories and orders office supplies. Serves as department property custodian; monitors and completes annual inventory of capital assets. Sorts and distributes mail. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

 

Field Supervisor- School of Education

The Field Supervisor acts as a link between the university, program course work, the student teacher and the field placement sites (district/school). He/she shares responsibility for assisting students to develop their knowledge, skills, attitudes, dispositions and beliefs in professionally productive ways within the framework of the program. A Field Supervisor conducts observations and completes documents on a prescribed schedule. Location: Victoria, TX and surrounding Independent School Districts. Requirements: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned: Assist students in applying their knowledge and skills to school settings. Aid students in improving their professional decision-making abilities through critical self-reflection and self-analysis. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships between the university and the schools. Remediate difficulties or differences which may arise and which may affect the teacher. Complete a supervisor training at UHV that is required of all supervisors by Texas Education Agency. Conduct required observations and formal documentation due for each student on a prescribed schedule. Attend student teaching orientation seminar each semester and visit each teacher candidate four times for observations at the school site. Minimum Qualifications:
